Fayyaz made these remarks on 22 October at a "Siyaasathu Workshop" held for the people of Addu Meedhoo and Hulhudhoo. He pointed out that women make up more than half of the country's population, so improving society is impossible without improving the lives of women. He added that because society has long been run mostly by men, extra effort is needed to give women fair opportunities.<\/p>\n
Fayyaz noted that reserving council seats for women has already shown good results. He said that raising children and taking care of the home helps the whole community. Because of this, he believes husbands or the state should pay women for this work.<\/p>\n
He also shared concerns about women who spend years supporting their husband's career and business, only to be left with nothing if they get divorced later in life. Since they never had formal jobs, they have no pensions or financial safety net, which he called a serious issue that needs fixing.<\/p>\n
