Shirak Avia, an airline from Armenia, will start weekly flights to the Maldives this winter. The flights will connect Yerevan with Malé starting in November 2026 and running through March 2027.
The airline will fly every Saturday between Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan and Velana International Airport. The flights will use Boeing 737-800 planes and will make a short fuel stop in Muscat, Oman, before flying on to Malé. This new route is part of the airline's winter plans, which also include flights to Bali and Phuket.
At the same time, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) is opening more check-in space at Velana International Airport for the busy winter season. From 25 October, passengers flying with Shirak Avia and nine other international airlines will check in at Terminal 2 instead of the main international terminal.
The other airlines checking in at Terminal 2 are Neos, Aeroflot, US-Bangla Airlines, Centrum Air, Azur Air, S7 Airlines, Kuwait Airways, GullivAir, and French Bee. Terminal 2, which used to be the international terminal, is now used for domestic flights. Moving these airlines to Terminal 2 gives travellers more check-in counters and room during the peak travel months.
MACL advises passengers flying on these airlines to go straight to Terminal 2 and arrive early to complete check-in on time.
